Service members, veterans and families attend a candlelight vigil before the 35th Beirut Memorial Observance Ceremony at Lejeune Memorial Gardens in Jacksonville, N.C., Oct. 23, 2018. The purpose of the candlelight vigil is to honor those service member the participants knew and to gather with others who felt the loss. During the ceremony, all of the names on the wall are read aloud by family members and fellow service members. A memorial observance is held Oct. 23 of each year to remember those lives lost during the terrorist attacks at U.S. Marine Barracks, Beirut, Lebanon, and Grenada.
