ABILENE, Kansas (Oct. 13, 2018) – Lt. Blake Harpel, assigned to USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), receives the General Eisenhower Leadership Award, from Kevin Rooney, treasurer of the Eisenhower Foundation, during the Eisenhower Legacy Gala dinner at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library. Harpel, along with President Eisenhower Leadership Award winner Chief Personnel Specialist Ralph Long, were invited to join the Eisenhower Foundation in Dwight D. Eisenhower's hometown of Abilene, Kansas, in celebration of their accomplishments. The awards recognize their leadership and contributions to their communities, both on ship and ashore. The weekend also involved a visit to Dwight D. Eisenhower Elementary School, media engagements, a visit to Ike's boyhood home and the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library.
