ABILENE, Kansas (Oct. 13, 2018) –Capt. Kyle Higgins, commanding officer of USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), admires photographs hanging on the wall of President Eisenhower’s boyhood home. Higgins, along with several of his Sailors, were in Abilene, Kansas, President Eisenhower’s hometown, to see two of his Sailors be recognized for their accomplishments by being awarded the General and President Eisenhower Leadership Awards. The awards recognize their leadership and contributions to their communities, both on ship and ashore. The Sailors were invited to join the Eisenhower Foundation in Dwight D. Eisenhower's hometown of Abilene, Kansas, in celebration of their accomplishments. The weekend also involved a visit to Dwight D.
