ABILENE, Kansas (Oct. 12, 2018) – Lt. Blake Harpel, assigned to USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), signs a banner honoring a quote from President Dwight D. Eisenhower which hangs at Dwight D. Eisenhower Elementary School. Harpel and Chief Personnel Specialist Ralph Long are, respectively, the 2018 General Eisenhower and President Eisenhower leadership award winners. The awards recognize their leadership and contributions to their communities, both on ship and ashore. The Sailors were invited to join the Eisenhower Foundation in Dwight D. Eisenhower's hometown of Abilene, Kansas, in celebration of their accomplishments. The weekend also involved a visit to Dwight D.
