Vice Adm. Rinaldo Veri lands aboard ITS San Giusto as part of a visit to mark the end of Operation Unified Protector Oct. 31, 2011. As Maritime Commander, Nisida, Naples, Veri has run the NATO operations at sea in support of United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1970 and 1973. His forces have included surface and subsurface assets and maritime surveillance aircraft. A total of 49 surface ships supported by submarines and aircraft carried out 3,180 hailings, 311 boardings and 11 denials. "The statistics from the maritime side need to be stressed as they help show the scale of NATO efforts to fulfill this historic mission," said Veri during the visit which saw him address the crews of four ships simultaneously.
