Lance Cpl. Damian Gonzalez, a radio operator with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 (Reinforced), slaps chalk between his hands before the deadlift portion of a power lifting competition aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) underway in the East China Sea, Oct. 14, 2018. Marines and Sailors participated in this friendly power lifting competition to boost morale and encourage Navy-Marine Corps integration while aboard the Wasp. Gonzalez, a native of Rodgers, Arkansas, graduated from Rodgers Heritage High School in June 2016 before enlisting in October 2016. The 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible force ready to perform a wide-range of military operations.
