STARBASE Los Alamitos engineering laboratory teacher Briana Yancey launches a rocket model down a string and into a concrete block to test the safety of payload cushions developed by fifth graders from Frank Vessels Elementary School in Cypress, California, as part of their hands-on curriculum, August 17, 2018, at Joint Forces Training Base, Los Alamitos, California. Earlier in the day, the STARBASE campus held a ceremony to celebrate state funding for a new classroom building at the site. STARBASE Los Alamitos offers science, technology, engineering and math curriculum to elementary and middle school students in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.
