Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva, of California's 65th District, celebrates with STARBASE Los Alamitos students from Frank Vessels Elementary School in Cypress, California, after they successfully protected the payload of a string-launched rocket model as part of their hands-on curriculum, August 17, 2018, at Joint Forces Training Base, Los Alamitos, California. Quirk-Silva met the students while touring the STARBASE campus following a ceremony to celebrate state funding for a new classroom building at the site. STARBASE Los Alamitos offers science, technology, engineering and math curriculum to elementary and middle school students in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Quirk-Silva was instrumental in securing funds to construct the new classroom building. (U.S. Air National Guard photo by Senior Airman Crystal Housman)
