Marines and Sailors load boxes with apples at the San Francisco Food Bank during San Francisco Fleet Week, Oct. 4, 2018. In total, the service members loaded 23,000 pounds of apples onto pallets that will be shipped out same-day to over 400 pantries in the San Francisco Bay area. The San Francisco Food Bank feeds 144,000 people each week and delivers 49 million pounds of food each year. The cooperation and coordination of relationships established during San Francisco Fleet Week foster the development and sharing of best practices in humanitarian assistance and is recognized by the United States Department of Defense as the model for fleet weeks across the country.
