Jesus Rios, the U.S. Army Medical Command – Alaska command sergeant major, spoke about the vital role Hispanic service members have played throughout the Army and military’s existence, as well as significance of the observance month starting Sept. 15 in relation to the Mexican Independence Day on Sept. 16. Rios welcomed dancers from San Antonio who demonstrated a variety of different Latin dances from the merengue to the salsa. Lt. Col. Dalmar Jackson, deputy commander of administration, MEDDAC-AK, gave closing remarks and presented the dancers with a gift of appreciation for coming to Alaska and taking part in the observance.
