A Coast Guard shallow-water response team guides Coast Guard Vice Adm. Scott Buschman and U.S. Rep. Brian Mast, R-Palm City, Florida, through floodwaters to assess post-Hurricane Florence conditions in Oak Grove, North Carolina, Sept. 20, 2018.

The 16-foot aluminum boats of the shallow-water response teams permitted rescuers to reach stranded residents and conduct welfare checks in inland, rural areas of North Carolina.
