Lance Cpl. Carlos Munoz, a machine gunner with Company G, Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, prepares a fuel bladder attached to a Combat Rubber Raiding Craft during training inside the well deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1), off the coast of Okinawa, Japan, Sept. 2, 2018. Munoz, a native of San Diego, graduated from Sweetwater High School in June 2016 before enlisting in October of the same year. Marines with Company G, part of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit’s Ground Combat Element, train for sea-based amphibious operations using small inflatable boats, called Combat Rubber Raiding Craft. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible force ready to perform a wide-range of military operations across the Indo-Pacific region.
