Pvt. Mario Chavez, a cannon crewmember with Battery B, 2nd Battalion, 12th Field Artillery Regiment, pulls the firing cord on an M777 155 mm Howitzer Oct. 13 during a direct fire exercise. Chavez, a Reedly, Calif., native, and other Soldiers of the battalion, assigned to 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, utilized their direct fire skills to hit targets closer to their position.
