From left to right, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, his wife Maggie, Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. Mike Mullen and wife Deborah lay a wreath at the eternal flame in Daley Plaza, Chicago, Ill., just prior to commencement of the city's annual Memorial Day parade. Adm. Mullen was honored as this year's parade Grand Marshal. Mayor Daley and Adm. Mullen also presented Illinois family members with Gold Star flags in remembrance of their fallen loved ones. Since World War I, family members of deceased veterans have hung a gold star in their windows to honor their sacrifice.
