Marine Sergeant Cameron Near, the Recruiting Station (RS) Charlotte, North Carolina, administrative chief, gives the invocation for the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the station during United States Marine Corps’ 2018 Marine Week in Charlotte, September 5, 2018. The opening of the station signals the Marine Corps’ recognition of the region’s growing population, as Charlotte metropolitan and surrounding areas are expected to grow in population at a rate of 47 percent growth over the next 20 years. The Marine Corps Recruiting Command planned unique engagements to interact with important components of the Charlotte population, looking to share its message of opportunity with a diverse audience of people who in many cases had little previous exposure to our culture.
