A U.S. Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker maintainer assigned to the 28th Expeditionary Air Refueling Squadron at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, performs a pre-flight inspection prior to the engine start Sept. 1, 2018. The KC-135 provides aerial refueling to U.S. and Coalition forces in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, the NATO Resolute Support Mission and Operation Freedom's Sentinel. Air refueling is a vital component of flying operations, allowing aircraft to stay airborne longer and support U.S. and Coalition forces in the air and on the ground.
