U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Shannon Politte, a native of New Orleans and material management supervisor for Company A, 172nd Support Battalion, 172nd Infantry Brigade, Task Force Blackhawk, speaks with one of the many helicopter crewmen at the flight line Oct. 5, at Forward Operating Base Sharana. Politte, who is the noncommissioned officer in charge of the helicopter landing zone, uses skills learned while as a drill sergeant to help her maintain the day-to-day operations and take care of 18 soldiers for whom she is responsible.
