JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (August 24, 2018) Cmdr. George Mendes, Naval Hospital Jacksonville chaplain, leads a prayer after morning colors and awards. Mendes, a native of Fair Lawn, New Jersey, says "As a Navy chaplain, I consider myself privileged to be able to facilitate and provide for the spiritual needs of our service members and their families. One of the components of readiness is spiritual readiness. Being spiritually ready means to be connected to our faith and purpose, with a sense of confidence that empowers us to face life's challenges. Toward that end, chaplains are champions of spiritual readiness." (U.S. Navy photo by Jacob Sippel, Naval Hospital Jacksonville/Released).
