Soldiers of the 1st Combined Arms Battalion, 194th Armor, from Minnesota stand in formation during a combat patch ceremony held at Camp Virginia, Kuwait, Sept. 11, 2011. The ceremony was held on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks to remember and honor those who lost their lives on that cataclysmic day and those who have given the ultimate sacrifice during the war on terror. The combat patch worn on the right shoulder sleeve of a soldier’s uniform recognizes their service in a combat arena and the unit they served under. Each soldier received the symbol of the Red Bull. The insignia features a steer skull over an “olla,” or Mexican water flask. The patch acknowledges the extensive training conducted in 1917 by the Red Bulls in New Mexico while preparing to deploy to Europe.
