Troy "Mike" Shoemaker, commander of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 9, performs a pre-flight inspection in an F/A-18F Hornet assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 2 on the flight deck of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72). Abraham Lincoln is underway conducting a composite training unit exercise to train sailors assigned to the ship, embarked air wing and other units to function as effective fighting force.
