The Mendocino National Forest terrain proves to be challenging, August 14, 2018, even for Task Force Rugged Soldiers assigned to 14th Brigade Engineer Battalion at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. The active-duty crew, supervised by two professional firefighter crew bosses, was tasked with cold trailing and mopping up hot spots in the black area of the Mendocino Complex Fire to support National Interagency Fire Center wildland fire fighting efforts.
