Third U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) soldiers carry the remains of Sgt. 1st Class Daniel R. Adams during a dignified transfer, Sept. 15, at Dover Air Force Base, Del. Adams, 35, of Portland, Ore., died Sept. 13 in the Wardak province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), in Stuttgart, Germany. The Old Guard is the only Army unit to conduct dignified transfers of every Army soldier killed in action in support of overseas contingency operations.
