Fire burns through a trees during the Rim Fire, as seen in a screen capture of video footage from a U.S. Air Force MQ-1 Predator remotely piloted aircraft flown Sept. 1, 2013, by the California Air National Guard's 163d Reconnaissance Wing (now the 163d Attack Wing). The aircraft took off from Southern California Logistics Airport in Victorville, California, and provided firefighters with a real-time aerial look at the fire. The Rim Fire was the first time an Air National Guard remotely piloted aircraft was used to support civil authorities during a wildfire. (U.S. Air National Guard video)
