180731-N-RP435-001 SAN DIEGO (July 31, 2018) A landing craft air cushioned (LCAC) assigned to Assault Craft Unit (ACU) 5 departs Naval Base San Diego after participating in a recruiting event. Sailors from several needed rates in the LCAC crew community attended the recruiting and familiarization event. LCAC crewmembers are required to meet a package, be second-class swimmer qualified and have a flight physical to qualify. LCACs are used for transporting, ship-to-shore all U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps personnel, weapons, equipment, and cargo of the assault elements of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force. ACU 5 provides the operational commander with fully manned, trained, maintained and properly supported LCACs ready to conduct prompt, sustained combat and non-combat operations.
