Lt. Cmdr. Hank Cole, assigned to Naval Medical Center San Diego, extracts a tooth for Dan Ramirez, a Vietnam-era veteran attending the Orange County Stand Down taking place on the grounds of Santa Ana College in Santa Ana, Calif., Sept. 17-18. The two-day event aims to provide basic human services to homeless and at-risk veterans and their families including medical, dental and vision exams, counseling and access to Department of Veterans Affairs personnel and other resources on-site. NMCSD staff performed more than 50 examinations and 80 tooth extractions during the first day of the event.
