U.S. Marine Corps recruits with Platoon 4038, Papa Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, execute pull-ups during their Initial Strength Test on Parris Island July 20, 2018. The minimum physical requirements for female recruits to begin training are 44 crunches in two minutes, 1 pull-up untimed or 15 push ups in two minutes, and a 1.5-mile run in 15 minutes. Today, approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 49 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Dana Beesley)
