VICENZA, Italy -- U.S. Army Paratrooper Lt. Col. Andrew Baker, Commander of 54th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 173rd Airborne Brigade, runs through the night during the Running of the Herd relay race on July 18th, 2018. The Running of the Herd is an annual 173rd Airborne Brigade event honoring fallen Paratroopers. Competitors must complete as many laps as possible around Caserma Del Din's 2.3 mile perimeter road within 24 hours. The 173rd Airborne Brigade is the U.S. Army’s Contingency Response Force in Europe, providing rapidly deploying forces to the U.S. Army Europe, Africa and Central Command Areas of Responsibility within 18 hours.
