180716-N-YG414-147 YOKOSUKA, Japan (July 16, 2018) - Damage Controlman Fireman George Carter, from Norman, Okla., operates a Navy Firefighters Thermal Imager (NFTI) to check for hotspots in a simulated smoke-filled space during a Flying Squad fire drill aboard U.S. 7th Fleet flagship USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19). NFTI cameras operate using infrared imaging to penetrate smoke-filled spaces in order to locate downed personnel or obscured fires. Blue Ridge and her crew have now entered a final upkeep and training phase in preparation to become fully mission capable for operations.
