The new Armed Forces Reserve Center in the former Roosevelt Roads Naval Station in Ceiba, Puerto Rico, was inaugurated, Sept. 10. The ribbon cutting ceremony was officiated by Maj. Gen. Joseph Anderson, Puerto Rico Army National Guard Adjutant Gen., Maj. Gen. Antonio J. Vicens, Brig. Gen. Fernando Fernandez, commander of the 1st Mission Support Command and the Mayor of Ceiba Hon. Pedro Colon along with U.S. Army Corps of Engineer, Ret. Brig. Gen. Juan Rosado and civilian aide for the Secretary of the Army in Puerto Rico, Ret. Maj. Gen. Felix A. Santoni. The AFRC will be the house of three National Guard Units and one Reserve unit. After the ceremony, guests had the opportunity to walk around the areas and see old photographs of the all Puerto Rican 65th Infantry Regiment, also known as the "Borinqueneers."
