BOOTS ON HOT GROUND — California Army National Guardsmen from the 144th Field Artillery Battalion, 100th Troop Command, 40th Infantry Division, are trading their regular combat boots for protective footwear issued by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) as more than 500 Guardsmen are training for ground wildfire operations. CAL FIRE distributes firefighting kits to each Soldier and the kits consist of basic protective gear. When the troops finally reach hot spots, they’ll be out of their normal Army uniforms and equipped with fire-preventive clothing. (U.S. Army National Guard photo by Staff Sgt. Eddie Siguenza)
