PACIFIC OCEAN (June 11, 2018) — Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2), left, and Whidbey Island-class amphibious dock landing ship USS Rushmore (LSD 47), right, conduct a replenishment-at-sea with Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo and ammunition ship USNS Charles Drew (T-AKE 10) during composite training unit exercise (COMPTUEX). COMPTUEX is the final pre-deployment exercise that certifies the combined Essex Amphibious Ready Group and 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s abilities to conduct military operations at sea and project power ashore during their upcoming deployment in summer of 2018.
