Lt. Col. Boeding, commander of the 107th Fighter Squadron, visits the grave of Lt. Robert S. Olson, a member of what was then the 107th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron and who was shot down and killed in combat action on July 24, 1944, during World War II. Boeding visited the gravesite at the American Cemetery in St. James, France, June 3, 2018. The 107th Tactical Fighter Squadron operated from the airfield for about a week beginning in late June 1944, becoming the first U.S. reconnaissance squadron to operate from the European mainland during World War II. Personnel and aircraft from the current 107th Fighter Squadron were in France in June 2018 to mark the 74th anniversary of D-Day during the war.
