Cavalry scouts from Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Advise and Assist Brigade, U.S. Division – North, prepare to be extracted by a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter after finishing a “react to contact” exercise in the Northern Salah-a-Din province, Iraq, Aug. 12. The exercise was the culmination of a two-week training event scouts performed in preparation for assuming duties as the “Blues” platoon. The platoon’s mission encompasses the security and recovery of downed aircraft personnel.
