180526-N-GX781-0332 - Chief Machinist's Mate Patrick Smith, the grandson of the executive officer of the USS Scorpion (SSN 589), reads off the names of the Sailors from the Scorpion during a memorial ceremony of the 50th anniversary of the Scorpions loss. Held at the Scorpion Memorial on Naval Station Norfolk, the ceremony was attended by over 500 family members, friends and Shipmates of the 99 crewmembers lost. Speakers for the event were Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral John Richardson; Captain (retired) Bill Richardson, CNO’s father and former Scorpion crewmember; Vice Admiral Joe Tofalo, Commander, Submarine Forces; and Captain Maryetta Nolan, daughter of Scorpion Chief of the Boat, Chief Petty Officer Walter Bishop.
