180526-N-AT530-0243 NORFOLK (May 26, 2018) Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. John Richardson passes through sideboys during a memorial ceremony in honor of USS Scoprion (SSN 589) Sailors who were lost at sea 50 years ago. Held at the Scorpion Memorial on Naval Station Norfolk, the ceremony was attended by over 500 family members, friends and Shipmates of the 99 crewmembers lost. Speakers for the event were Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral John Richardson; Captain (retired) Bill Richardson, CNO’s father and former Scorpion crewmember; Vice Admiral Joe Tofalo, Commander, Submarine Forces; and Captain Maryetta Nolan, daughter of Scorpion Chief of the Boat, Chief Petty Officer Walter Bishop.
