GARMSIR DISTRICT, Helmand province, Afghanistan - Lance Cpl. Ryan Shephard fastens the locking mechanisms on his truck to a giant freezer at Patrol Base May, Aug. 4. Shephard, a native of Olathe, Kan., is a driver and gunner for 3rd Trucks Platoon. Originating from Marine Corps Bases Japan, 3rd Trucks Platoon is attached to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment. Trucks Platoon is responsible for logistical deliveries throughout 1/3Õs area of operations.
