GARMSIR DISTRICT, Helmand province, Afghanistan - Staff Sgt. Travis Bartels and Lance Cpl. Ryan Shephard direct a tram to lift a giant freezer at Patrol Base May, Aug. 4. Bartels, a native of Mattoon, Ill., is the platoon sergeant for 3rd Trucks Platoon. Shephard, a native of Olathe, Kan., is a driver and gunner for 3rd Trucks Platoon. Originating from Marine Corps Bases Japan, 3rd Trucks Platoon is attached to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment. Trucks Platoon is responsible for logistical deliveries throughout 1/3's area of operations.
