180517-N-JH384-2141 SHIMODA, Japan (May 17, 2018) Sailors assigned to the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54) raise the First Navy Jack upon entering the harbor of Shimoda, Japan, for the 79th Shimoda Black Ship Festival. The 79th Shimoda Black Ship Festival promotes peaceful relations between the Japanese and American people and commemorates the 164th anniversary of the arrival of Commodore Matthew Perry to Japan in 1854, an event which marked the beginning of diplomacy and trade agreements between the U.S. and Japan.
