PARAMARIBO, Suriname – Sgt. Joseph Cross, Pfc. Jessica Meeks, and Cadet Justin Kolbeck work to construct the frame of a sun shelter outside the Pater van der Pluym School in Brownsweg, Suriname, Aug. 6, 2011. Cross, Meeks and Kolbeck, all from Rapid City, S.D., are assigned to the South Dakota Army National Guard's 155th Engineering Company, which is in Suriname as part of the 2011 New Horizons training exercise, a joint humanitarian mission between the U.S. Southern Command and the Suriname government.
