Sgt. Jerome Bernard helps construct a sun shelter outside the Pater van der Pluym School in Brownsweg, Suriname, Aug. 6, 2011. Bernard, from Winner, S.D., is assigned to the South Dakota Army National Guard's 155th Engineering Company, which is in Suriname as part of the 2011 New Horizons training exercise, a joint humanitarian mission between the U.S. Southern Command and the Suriname government.
