180512-N-OY799-0318 WATERS SOUTH OF JAPAN (May 12, 2018) Damage Controlman 2nd Class Herbert Gutierrez, from West Covina, California, and Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Handling) 3rd Class Devyn States, from Vernal, Utah, verify working sprinklers during an aqueous film form foam (AFFF) countermeasure washdown on the flight deck aboard the Navy's forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), as part of sea trials. AFFF is a mixture of water and highly concentrated detergent used on the flight deck and hangar bay to smother fires. Ronald Reagan, the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 5, provides a combat-ready force that protects and defends the collective maritime interests of its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
