Lance Cpl. Jesse D. Register, a food service specialist with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron and a Lexington, Va., native, drains excess water from a pot of marinara sauce in preparation for the Maj. Gen. W. P. T. Hill Memorial Award for Food Service Excellence pre-inspection at Gonzalez Messhall aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Aug. 2. The pre-inspection judged the chow hall and its workers on such criteria as food preparation, service techniques and sanitation in an attempt to determine the leading Marine Corps dining facility on the West Coast.
