Teams race by fans and residents of Oriental, N.C., as they race toward the finish line of the 2nd Annual Dragon Boat Races July 23. In addition to the 12 resident teams and one professional team out of Raleigh, N.C., the races hosted two Marine teams. “Events like this helps develop the relationships between Marines and their local communities,” said Staff Sgt. Barbara J. Chance, the captain of the Marine team, “The Punishers.” “This gives the Marines a chance to see what’s available in the local communities and teaches them about the culture of different towns.”
