PATROL BASE BEN, Helmand province, Afghanistan -- Sgt. Maj. Richard Mathern, the battalion sergeant major for 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, takes time to do push-ups with Marines of Company G. Mathern recently spent the day traveling to the different patrol bases within the company’s area of operations, checking on Marines and sailors along the way.
