COMBAT OUTPOST RILEY, Helmand province, Afghanistan -- Lancaster, Pa., native Cpl. Chris Rickert, a 26-year-old assaultman with Company G, 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, talks to fellow Marines in his company during a recent break in the day. The 2003 Garden Spot High School graduate said he learned to stay mentally strong and focused during the seven-month deployment. The unit spent the deployment eliminating insurgents from the Trek Nawa area and helping to increase security in the region.
