KINGS BAY, Georgia (April 25, 2018) Commander, U.S. Submarine Forces and Submarine Forces Atlantic, Vice Adm. Joseph Tofalo, center, congratulates the Blue and Gold crews of USS Maryland (SSBN 738) on their recieving the Meritorious Unit Commendation from the Secretary of the Navy. The crews of Maryland earned the unit award for returning the Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine to strategic readiness and completing the first alert patrol in the past four years. To earn the Meritorious Unit Commendation, units must display service of a character comparable to that which would merit the award of the Bronze Star Medal to an individual.
