GREAT LAKES, Ill. (April 20, 2018) The Honorable Brad Schneider (right), U. S. Congressman of the 10th Illinois Congressional District, observes firefighting training with Rear Adm. Mike Bernacchi, commander, Naval Service Training Command (NSTC), and members of Recruit Training Command (RTC) in the USS Chief Fire Fighting Trainer at the Navy’s only boot camp, April 20. Congressman Schneider was on hand to see changes in the curriculum to a more intensive hands-on training. RTC is approximately eight weeks and all enlistees into the U. S. Navy begin their careers at the command. Training also includes physical fitness, firearms, firefighting and shipboard damage control along with lessons in Navy heritage and core values, teamwork and discipline. (U.S. Navy photo by Scott A.
