Air Force Staff Sgt. Luiza Pereira (right), operating room technician, teaches Senior Airman Anna Halcin, medical technician, how to prepare an instrument for sterilization at Responders Support Camp Nighthawk, Indiana during Guardian Response 18 on April 19, 2018. The Airmen are from the 81st Medical Group based out of Keesler Air Force located in Biloxi, Mississippi.
“I don’t normally work in the operating room, so this is quite different,” said Halcin. “Learning this new area is kind of stressful, but it’s also interesting.”
The 81st MDG has the fourth largest deployment platform in the Air Force Medical Service and second in Air Education and Training Command. On average, Keesler deploys more than 60 personnel annually in support of contingencies around the world as well as medical-deployment-for-training (humanitarian) missions.
