Joint paratroopers arrive at the Great Western Hotel and Steakhouse in Rockhampton for dinner, a private rodeo and Australian wildlife handling, all within a thirty hour period of departing Alaska. The U.S. Army 1st Battalion (Airborne), 501st Infantry Regiment, from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, and Australian Defence Force 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, parachute jump masters relaxed after their tactical parachute insertion as part of Talisman Sabre 2011. TS11 is an exercise designed to train U.S. and Australian forces to plan and conduct Combined Task Force operations to improve combat readiness and interoperability on a variety of missions from conventional conflict to peacekeeping and humanitarian assistance efforts.
