An F/A-18E Super Hornet from the "Royal Maces" of Strike Fighter Squadron 27 launches from the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS George Washington during Talisman Sabre 2011. USS George Washington began its summer patrol June 12, departing its forward-operating base of Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka. Onboard are more than 5,500 Sailors from USS George Washington and Carrier Air Wing 5. USS George Washington's mission is to patrol the western Pacific, work with regional partners and help ensure security, stability and respond to any crisis across the operational spectrum as directed. TS11 is an exercise designed to train U.S. and Australian forces to plan and conduct Combined Task Force operations to improve combat readiness and interoperability on a variety of missions from conventional conflict to peacekeeping and humanitarian assistance efforts.
